Context
In an organisation that runs on shifts, arrival and departure times feed the daily record of work. The action has to stay immediate for employees, while managers need structured information to monitor attendance and time worked.
The problem
Manual or fragmented tracking makes schedules difficult to consolidate. Missed clockings and ambiguous statuses then require checks, when the information should be available throughout the day.
- Arrival and departure times are entered or reconciled manually
- A manager cannot immediately see who is currently working
- Worked time has to be recalculated from several sources
- Employees lack visibility over their own recorded hours
The solution
A Flutter application brings together the employee's daily actions. A management interface turns clockings into a usable view of attendance and hours.
- Start and end shift actions available from the main screen
- Today's schedule and time already worked shown at a glance
- A personal history of recorded hours
- A management view of attendance, arrivals and accumulated time
- Clear statuses for employees who are working, absent or finished
My role
I worked on the mobile application with Flutter, particularly the clocking flow, shift-status display, and access to schedules and worked time. The main challenge was making an administrative action simple enough to complete without friction at the start and end of every shift.
Constraints
- Reduce clocking to one clear action, with no ambiguity between starting and ending a shift
- Keep a consistent state when an employee opens the application again
- Make schedules and durations readable within seconds on a phone
- Present data for several employees without overloading the management interface
Outcome
Each shift leaves a clear record of its start and end. Employees can review their work information, while managers get a consolidated view of attendance and schedules.
- Daily clocking is centralised in the mobile application
- Attendance status becomes visible without manual consolidation
- Recorded hours remain available to employees and usable for monitoring
